Putting Together Outfits For Paris In December
It's not just holding your own with your communication, it's also with the way you show up
I don’t just teach ‘holding your own’ with your communication style and script. I also share tips on how to pack, so my women leaders feel confident for the adventures I take them on.
Early December is the coldest and rainiest time of year to be in the City of Lights. It’s also when I’m hosting the Deep Writing and Reflection Retreat for my clients.
What To Pack For Paris In Winter
I wrote about all the pieces I’m packing here in detail.
I map outfits to activities.
This avoids overpacking. It also cuts down on decision fatigue, so we can focus our energy on the experience.
A sense of preparedness always helps me in unfamiliar environments.
I call it “HOLDING YOUR OWN.”
Outfit Inspiration For December
Key to staying warm and stylish are thinking about comfort, versatility and—— thermals! Note that I have paired most outfits with a jacket that can keep me warm indoors if there is a draft or a sweater.
I have a wide range of thermal tops and bottoms from Uniqlo to Amazon to Intimissimi.
Outfit 1 We are having lunch at Le Dali, at the Le Meurice Hotel to kick off. Then off to the Chanel spa, plus dinner. I don’t want to get any of the amazing massage oils from the spa on anything silk or valuable. So loose and boxy are the order of the day.
My Herno coat is the staple for the entire trip.
Ultra light down, great for city-walking, and keeps me both stylish and warm.
I’ll wear Uniqlo heat tech tights underneath this skirt from Gerard Darel and a loose fitting, boxy cashmere sweater from Nadaam. This ultra light cashmere modal thermal layers under the sweater to keep warm. It’s like a whisper, but super warm.
After the spa, in order to channel more ‘evening’ vibes for drinks and dinner at the Ritz, I’ll switch my top to this Ballet scoop top from Club Monaco. I’ll already be on premise, as the spa is in the same hotel. So I don’ t have to worry about being cold in between.
All of my boots are from Naturalizer. I have the Rena Riding Boot in black, tan and chocolate.
All of my socks are merino wool from Bombas.
Outfit 2. We have the private tour of Galerie Dior and then off to the Haussman style apartment in Saint German for our deep writing and reflection, THEN the Christmas markets.
I want to be stylish for Dior, but most importantly, WARM and comfortable.
These wool pants from a designer in Girona, Spain fit like pajamas. I can layer Uniqlo heattech underneath, without adding bulk.
Paired with a white H&M button down and a sequin top from Massimo Dutti, I’m the spirit of the season, but still comfortable to sit on a couch and write. (I’ll layer a fleece lined tank top underneath the top to avoid bulk)
Outfit 3 We are at a high jewelry making class at Van Cleef and Arpels, lunch and then the Christmas markets. I want to be stylish and warm. I’ll layer the fleece lined tank top under this boxy blouse from Sandro. The ruffle collar offers flair, but function. I can move my arms easily. I’ll pair them with wool pants from Elena Miro. Again, with a layer of Uniqlo heat tech bottoms.
Outfit 4 is for the farewell. I’ll pair a feather skirt, with a velvet jacket and turtleneck for the dinner at Cafe L’homme. I’ve specifically requested a window seat, so we can gaze down the mall to the Eiffel Tower. Heat tech ultra warm tights from Uniqlo keep my legs warm.
Outfit 5 is for my birthday lunch with my friend Jane, who is flying in from New York.
We head to the Peninsula Hotel for L’oiseau Blanc overlooking Paris and the Tower. Ill pair a Frank and Eileen shirt, with this wool Massimo Dutti jacket, and leather pants for the occasion. Again, all pieces are loose fitting enough that I can layer heat tech underneath.
Outfit 6 is for walking around. Frank and Eileen make these amazing shirts (I have 3) that are big, boxy and comfortable. I’ll layer with jeans and my Ralph Lauren blazer. The scarf is from a Parisian store called Epice. I got it years ago and its super duper warm, but light as a feather.
Dressing thoughtfully can empower you to feel aligned with the atmosphere of a place like Paris, where style and presentation are culturally significant.
